For CTOs, founders, and platform teams

Modernize your cloud without losing control of delivery.

iTechOps works with engineering teams on cloud foundations, application migration, and DevOps delivery. Start with the workload constraints and an agreed baseline, then plan infrastructure, releases, cost ownership, and handover around the changes your business needs.

Start with the constraint

When this approach is useful

Cloud modernization becomes difficult when application dependencies, release habits, and operational ownership change at the same time. A platform migration alone will not resolve slow approvals, unclear cost allocation, or an untested recovery process. The first decision is which constraint is worth addressing and which applications can safely change together.

Startup approach

For a startup, focus on one production workload, a repeatable deployment path, and enough cost visibility to make the next scaling decision. Avoid a platform program that needs a separate team before it delivers value.

Enterprise approach

For an enterprise, define application owners, identity boundaries, procurement requirements, migration waves, and change approvals. Include the teams responsible for networks, security, finance, and operations in acceptance decisions.

Make the scope reviewable

Outputs to include in an engagement

Use these as a starting point for discovery. The proposal defines which outputs, environments, and responsibilities are included.

Workload assessment

A dependency map, current deployment and recovery process, and a prioritized risk register. Identify the applications that should be migrated, improved in place, or left unchanged, with a reason for each decision.

Cloud and delivery foundations

A proposed account and network structure, access model, environment conventions, and infrastructure-as-code approach. Define how changes move from review to testing and production, including rollback responsibilities.

Migration and handover plan

A sequence of pilot and migration waves, validation checks, cutover criteria, and recovery checkpoints. Include runbooks, ownership, and a backlog for work that should follow the initial rollout.

A phased path to delivery

  1. 01

    Discover the constraints

Review architecture, dependencies, release history, spend visibility, and operating responsibilities. Agree which risks need evidence before a migration decision.

  2. 02

    Prove one path

Choose a representative workload and test the proposed provisioning, release, and recovery process. Keep the pilot small enough to learn from before it becomes a migration standard.

  3. 03

    Roll out with acceptance gates

Expand only after agreed checks pass. Track remaining dependencies, record decisions, and transfer the operational knowledge needed to own the environment.

Agree the baseline first

How to evaluate progress

These are candidate measures, not promised results. Choose the measures, data sources, and review windows that reflect your business.

Measures to discuss for cloud modernization & devops
MeasureHow to make it meaningful
Delivery lead timeMeasure elapsed time from an agreed change starting point to production. Use a comparable class of changes before and after the work.
Deployment recoveryRecord failed release handling and recovery time using the same incident definition. Validate rollback or forward-fix procedures in a controlled exercise.
Workload costCompare costs against traffic, usage, and retained capacity. A smaller bill without the same workload or reliability requirements is not a like-for-like saving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers about iTechOps services, ways of working, and how to discuss your requirements with our team.

How do we choose the first workload?
Choose a workload with known owners, visible dependencies, and a recoverable change path. It should exercise the proposed delivery process without making the first pilot depend on every system in the business.
Can we keep our existing cloud provider and tools?
The assessment starts with the systems you already operate. Reuse working controls and delivery tools when they fit the target operating model. A proposal should explain why any replacement is needed.
How are migration timelines and downtime agreed?
Document dependencies, testing needs, data movement, approval gates, and the permitted change window before committing to a schedule. Validate cutover and recovery in a pilot; final availability commitments belong in the engagement agreement.
